Dr. Evan Moore has allowed
Dr. Ryker's clinic the use of a 3-meter videoendoscopy for the
examination of the horses upper gastrointestinal tract. This includes
the throat, esophagus, stomach and the initial portion of the
duodenum. What we will be looking for are basically lesions (ulcers or
tears) in the esophagus. The stomach is also examined for ulcers. A
significant number of racing and competitive horses do suffer from
stomach ulcers. The examination of the stomach requires a 24-hour fast
followed by an exam at the clinic.
